Governance
BTSF is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board adopts the budget, approves programs and grants and oversees the Foundation's finances. Directors serve without compensation. The Foundation's founders hold honorary youth-leadership titles, serve as unpaid volunteers and receive no funds or benefits from BTSF.
Fundraising disclosures
BTSF solicits contributions online and complies with the charitable-solicitation laws of Georgia and of other states as it begins to raise funds there. Financial and registration information is available on request at info@btsf.org. BTSF does not use paid professional fundraisers.
Policies
Conflict of interest
A conflict-of-interest policy modeled on the IRS sample policy. Interested directors disclose and recuse; transactions with insiders and their organizations are reviewed and approved only by disinterested directors on documented, arm's-length terms.
Youth protection and safeguarding
Background checks, mandated-reporter rules and clear reporting channels apply to everyone who works with young people on BTSF's behalf, and we expect the same of partners.
Grants and partnerships
Partners are selected on objective criteria. Every grant has a written agreement with a defined project, budget, timeline and report. International grants include sanctions screening and verification of use of funds.
Financial controls
Board-approved budgets, documented approvals for significant payments, Board review of the accounts and annual financial reporting.
No insider benefit
BTSF's Articles of Incorporation prohibit private inurement, political campaign activity and substantial lobbying, and dedicate its assets to 501(c)(3) purposes on dissolution. No director, officer, founder or family member may receive funds or benefits from the Foundation.
