Youth football development across Asia
Internationally, BTSF supports youth football development through project-based collaboration with organizations in East Asia, with Southeast Asia and South Asia to follow — regions our founders know through their upbringing, their languages and their heritage.
Why Asia
BTSF's founders were born in Singapore, grew up speaking Mandarin and Bengali, and have seen at first hand how uneven access to organized sport is across the region: talented children in rural and low-income communities whom national systems rarely reach, girls and women with few places to play, and players with disabilities for whom almost nothing exists. Project-based collaboration lets BTSF contribute where the need is specific and the results can be measured.
Where we focus
Youth leagues and talent development
Supporting the structures that give young players regular, organized competition, and the outreach that brings coaching to schools and communities the existing system rarely reaches.
Coach and volunteer education
Helping bring inclusive coaching, safeguarding and officiating courses to the people running grassroots programs.
Access for girls, women and players with disabilities
Backing programs that open football to those who have had the fewest chances to play.
Equipment and participation support
Kit, balls and goals, and participation assistance administered by partner organizations under their own criteria.
How we fund international work
BTSF funds specific projects, not general budgets. Each international grant is governed by a written agreement that sets out the project, budget, timeline and reporting; BTSF screens partners, retains discretion and control over the use of its funds, and verifies how they were spent, as U.S. law requires of charities working abroad. BTSF's directors, founders and their family members may not benefit from any grant.
Looking ahead
BTSF begins in East Asia and expects to grow to Southeast Asia and South Asia. It may collaborate with national, regional and multilateral football bodies where doing so is consistent with its charitable purposes.
